Beware of the WhatsApp chain link scam. It appears to be a helpful message of how you can win money, gifts, and rewards for just clicking on a link. However, when you do that, what really happens is a game of data harvesting, and generating traffic to a website that does not have any content, except these fraudulent offers. You can see similar offers being made through text messages, and on Facebook as well.
Sometimes, these tactics are also used to install spyware, malware, and adware on your mobile phones, laptops, and desktops. Therefore, if you find an offer that is too good to be true, even from your trusted phone or social media contact, know that they have fallen prey to it, and don’t know better. Stay away, stay safe.
