The Election Commission of India has published the draft electoral roll 2021 for the state of Karnataka. According to the revised schedule of the Special Summary Revision 2021, the period for filing claims and objections. They have been revised and now extend from November 18 to December 17, 2020. The date for the disposal of claims have been revised to January 7, 2021. The final publication of the electoral roll will be on January 18, 2021. However, it is important to note that the publication date of the draft roll was delayed from the revised schedule by two days.
Though ideally, the rolls would’ve been released in October or latest by early November, the pandemic caused the delay. Earlier, there had been a disagreement between the state election commission and the government regarding the dates of polls to the BBMP. Noting the disruption caused by the pandemic, the government wanted to postpone the elections to 2021. However, the Election Commission wanted the polls to be conducted by December by citing that Karnataka was doing somewhat better on the pandemic front.
