The Central Crime Branch (CCB) is hard at work. From raiding hookah bars and prostitution joints to drug traffickers, the latest news is that it has booked one person for releasing fraudulent advertisements in the print media, and cheating them of their monies.
According to Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), people should not respond to ads like the picture above. “CCB arrested one accused from Bengal who cheated candidates by promising medical, engineering and other seats,” he says.
Importantly, the cops tell us that such bogus ads were released by the accused in all the daily newspapers across India. Patil also says that if anyone is cheated by such ads, they can contact the City Crime Branch for help.
Chethan Salian said that the cops should take action on the media too for allowing such promotions. “Legal action must also be taken on those print media who published such ads,” he says. However, media professionals counter that it is hard to verify every classified or display advertisement that comes to them. Which is why, the media always carry a disclaimer that they are not responsible for the veracity of the claims being made in any promotion. The readers are to use their judgement before deciding to buy into any product or service. That goes for every item being sold on any medium.
Shiva Hiremath pointed another such training centre for aviation enthusiasts, and asked the cops to take action. Says he: “Kindly take action on this conceptual design center which is also fake, where they are charging 35k for one month for placements in KR Puram. More than 25 students lost their money.”

- Registers two cricket betting cases, two raids on illegal hookah bars. and one on matka gambling.
- Raids 3 illegal live bands in Ashoknagar, Kalasipalya and Cottonpet. 75 women rescued; 15 accused arrested.
- Detects a “high tech prostitution” racket; 4 accused arrested; operated through online portals like Locanto; had tele call centres; women from out of state were lured into this by promising them jobs.
- In the 3 cases registered in KPL match fixing & betting cases, CCB files preliminary charge sheets in all the 3 cases against 2 team owners, 5 players, and 5 bookies.
- Arrests 3 persons who try to sell “Rice Pulling Machine” to gullible victims by saying its used in spacecrafts and astronaut suits, and therefore can be sold at huge profits to space agencies.
- CCB arrests 2 drug peddlers… seizes 4.5 kg hashish, 22 kg cannabis worth Rs 40 lakhs; to hoodwink law enforcement, the accused kept the drugs in coconut oil bottles and sold them in Bangalore.

- Seized Rs 96 lakhs cash and detained 40 persons on complaints of irregularities by punters and bookies at Bangalore Turf Club.
