In three separate incidents since December 13, three drug addicts were arrested in Koramangala. This follows a similar arrest in Indiranagar more than a month ago.
KORAMANGALA
On December 20, the cops arrested Ravikumar. The 28-year-old accused was caught near Corporation bank on Audugodi Main Road in Koramangala 8th Block at 11pm. The cops were tipped off that two youngsters were taking drugs. When the cops reached the place, the youngsters ran away, but Ravikumar was rounded up. After getting certified by a nearby hospital that he was indeed on drugs, the cops have booked a case against him.
On December 19, the cops arrested 23-year-old Kumar S for allegedly taking drugs near Lakshmidevi Park in Koramangala. Based on a tip off that three youth were indulging in drugs, the cops rushed to the place. Spotting them, two ran away and one of them was caught. A hospital examination proved that he had taken cannabis.
On December 13, at around 12.20pm, the Koramangala police, based on a tip off that several youth were indulging in drug consumption, arrested Wasim Khan, a 20-year-old accused of consuming drugs near Ambedkar park in Koramangala 8th Block. The rest of the youth ran away after spotting the cops. The accused was taken to a hospital where it was confirmed that he had consumed cannabis.
INDIRANAGAR
On October 29, 2019, Indiranagar police arrested 19-year-old Atish Immanuel for allegedly consuming drugs and behaving strangely near HDFC Bank signal on Indiranagar Double Road.
The incident occurred at 6.55pm during police patrol. They spotted the accused behaving in a strange manner. When they went closer, they realised that the person was under the influence of some drugs. They immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital where the doctors concluded that he had consumed cannabis (ganja).
All the four accused were arrested for violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 under section 27B which prohibits consumption of the banned substance. If convicted, this offence can land the youth in jail for up to six months with a penalty of up to Rs 10,000 or both.
