Vani Vilasapura Dam, about 3-3.5 hours drive away from Bengaluru, is a veritable weekend getaway. You can go in the morning, have breakfast on the way, reach the dam, and be drawn to its expansive natural landscape of mountains and river Vedavathi.
The scene is straight out of a picture postcard, and you will be surprised that it’s just a few hours away from the madding crowds of the city. Just remember that there aren’t any good eating or lodging places around the dam. It’s strictly a day visit place.
However, due to Covid, entry is restricted to only a few people at a time. There is also a time limitation, so you cannot stay on for longer periods once you are at the dam. Masks are compulsory. There is also a panchavathi garden that is home to medicinal plants. It’s a must-visit too.
If you do plan to do something more, you could come back to the National Highway near Hiriyur and have your food or lodging place. You could also stop at Sira in Tumkur and visit the Sira fort and marvel at the architecture of Juma Masjid, a mosque built in 1696 AD by the Adil Shahi regime.
Happy travels!
