Alert marshalls did a fabulous job of getting a water tanker seized for carrying hazardous chemicals and preparing to dump it in unauthorised areas. The exercise required them to follow the water tanker on their vehicles from Kottegepalya to Yelahanka.
After establishing the facts, they coordinated with the RTO officials and traffic police to nail the lorry driver. Revealing the seizure, BBMP Special Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) D Randeep said the RR Nagar RTO officials confiscated the loaded tanker and arrested the driver for trying to dump the waste in unauthorised places. An FIR is filed in RR Nagar and further investigation is in progress.
Reacting to this, civic activist Leo Saldanha tweeted to the BBMP Commissioner and mayor that the case should also be filed against the MD of the companies involved in generating the hazardous waste and transporting it. He asked the officials to make the case watertight by getting the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) involved as well.
