Special drive by cops to remove abandoned vehicles; residents can report now!

The West division of traffic police has begun to remove abandoned vehicles from roads and footpaths in Bangalore. Residents can tweet with pictures to Bangalore Traffic Police about such vehicles for prompt action.

Announcing the special drive, Dr Soumyalatha SK has said that if residents notice any vehicles, either junk or abandoned, they can take the pictures of such automobiles and hand it to the nearest traffic police station with their exact location. “We are on the job to locate such vehicles in all the roads and give it to BBMP,” she tweeted. “BBMP will remove these vehicles.” In Malleswaram, the cops removed four such junk vehicles, located their owners, fined them on the spot, and handed back the automobiles.

Resident Sonali Singh said that the cops are hesitant to take action on abandoned vehicles. “This is the issue that the citizens are facing,” she tweeted to the police commissioner. “BTP points to BBMP and BBMP to BTP. We were told that it is BTP’s responsibility to tow away unclaimed cars parked on the roads and pavements. What are the tigers for?”

The top cop, Bhaskar Rao, responded with: “We are touch with BBMP to remove unclaimed vehicles on road; we have a budget and mandate only for those vehicles opposite our police station.” One person pointed out vehicles behind Basaveshwaranagar police station. The top cop instructed the local cops to take the help of BBMP and have them cleared.

Nishit Patani tweeted that though he had posted one such abandoned vehicle more than a month to the police, no action was taken yet. He was referring to a car in Anugraha Layout, 2nd Stage, Bilekahalli.

Jainendra Ojha wanted the cops to also police the self-drive bike rental services like Bounce. “Can you look into the bounce scooters… they are randomly thrown and parked anywhere, including the middle of the road,” he said about people leaving behind the rental vehicles in gay abandon.

Muthu Raj K pointed to many abandoned vehicles that only keep adding up in one area of Kengeri: Shirke, KHB quarters. “All are abandoned vehicles. Some have other state registrations,” he said. Jawari Patil stressed on double parking of vehicles being just as much of a nuisance. “From Thimmaiah Road to MC Modi Hospital junction, the vehicles are parked on both sides of the road, leading to less motorable road, and the shops have encroached the footpaths,” he tweeted to the DCP.
