A 30-year-old housewife in Sector 1 has filed a dowry harassment case against her husband and in-laws at the HSR Layout police station.
According to the complaint given on January 31, 2019, the resident of 24th main has alleged that her 30-year-old husband Dinesh Chandra and his family members Sitadevi (50), Hanuman (54), Tara and Dilip, have been harassing her for more dowry even though she claims that her parents paid Rs 3 lakh, her husband demanded more money and also inflicted mental and physical torture over her.
Married on December 12, 2016, she has now gone to the cops for help as she is fed up of the constant pestering for more money by her inlaws. The HSR cops have registered the case under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and also under the Indian Penal Code for cruelty to a woman (498A), criminal act (34) and intentional insult (504).
Unlike petty offences, dowry harassment cases are taken more seriously by the cops. They exercise much caution when dealing with these cases as several women were caught filing false cases on men to settle personal scores.
