Take part in the free weekly ‘HU’ meditation sessions in HSR
By ZAHID H JAVALI
A bunch of HSR residents headed by Bharathi S, a resident of Sector 7, are doing their bit to usher in peace in their neighbourhoods. No, they are not propagating any particular religion, cult or regime. They are just telling everyone to chant ‘HU’ (pronounced ‘Hue’) whenever they feel stressed, unwell or just want some peace of mind. Not just that, they also meet up every Saturday between 4.30pm and 6pm to engage in group meditations and a question and answer session with one of their mentors – Anand, Nandini or Rajesh. Both Anand and Nandini have met the current spiritual leader of HU, Harold Klemp (see picture above), who is based in the US.
Klemp says, “HU is woven into the language of life. It is the sound of all sounds. It is the wind in the leaves, falling rain, thunder of jets, singing of birds, the awful rumble of a tornado. Its sound is heard in laughter, weeping, the din of city traffic, ocean waves and the quiet rippling of a mountain stream. And yet, the word HU is not God. It is a word people anywhere can use to address the Originator of Life.”
According to Klemp, the soul’s ultimate purpose is to find divine love and HU can make that happen. “Just chant HU for 5-20 minutes every day and you will not only heal yourself but also clear any negativity that is within you or surrounds you,” says Anand. “Just practicing for a few days will give you results.” Don’t believe him? Just try out this simple spiritual exercise and you will agree with us. Once you are comfortably seated or lying down, shut your eyes and take some long breaths. When your inner voice says you are ready, start singing HU and feel love. The more you say it, the more relaxed and blessed you will feel. You may hear a bell ringing in the distance or the sound of a gurgling stream or just see white light.
Remember, every human’s ultimate aim is to be at peace because happiness is an elevated state of mind. And HU helps you attain peace.
At the weekly meet-ups, the HSR residents chant HU for 20 minutes and then open a book of fables authored by Klemp and try to uncover the hidden truth of life. The Q&A session is just as soothing as the chant itself.
The residents have a Whatsapp Group. If you want to be part of this group, contact Bharathi at the numbers given below. For more details on this spiritual movement, visit: www.eckankar.org.
