Covid-19 update: BBMP is sanitising the streets & delivering groceries to your door

BBMP has been sanitising the streets for the last two weeks in phases. They targetted the hotspots and main roads first, before venturing into cross roads. They began with drones spraying sodium hypochlorite, and now BBMP workers are also going round on vehicles and as backpack sprayers to disinfected the footpaths. Not all areas of Bangalore are covered yet as several residents have complained that they have not seen any such activity in their areas.

Health camps are also being conducted for BBMP workers, the frontline people who are at a greater risk of catching the infection due to improperly disposed garbage, among other reasons. While 20% of the wards in Bangalore have recorded COVID-19 cases, the rest are safe. While two wards (Padarayanapura and Bapujinagar) have been sealed off to contain the spread, the other wards are not sealed, and all rumours that say otherwise should not be taken seriously, according to BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar today.

BBMP has also launched Sahaaya Setuve, an app that bridges gaps and avoids duplication of efforts by NGOs, BBMP workers and volunteers while serving the needy. Any NGO who would like to help the civic authorities in rescue, rehabilitation and food delivery efforts can use this app and team up with the BBMP.

More than 61,000 food grain kits have been delived by BBMP to migrants and construction workers identified by the Labour Dept & BBMP’s Joint Commissioner. What’s more, to prevent people from stepping out to buy groceries and other essential items, BBMP has launched a helpline for citizens in Bengaluru South police division limits of Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, Padmanabhanagar and Chikpet. You can place an order by calling 080-61914960 and the essentials will be delivered to your doorstep.

Honda India Foundation has donated 200 power sprayers to BBMP under its CSR programme to battle COVID19. These light-weight high-pressure backpack sprayers were received by the city mayor and deputy mayor.
