HOW TO DISPOSE EWASTE AFTER SUNDAY?
Well, for small items, there is the permanent ewaste collection kiosk by Saahas in front of MK Retail on 17th Cross near NIFT in Sector 2. If that is too small for bulky electronic waste, you could deposit the waste at another pickup point in Sector 4. However, at both these spots you will not be paid for the positive value items either. It’s just a convenience service provided by two NGOs.

On December 10, a thief took the keys lying inside an open window and let himself into a second floor house in Sector 1. He stole the laptop bag which contained a passport and a mobile phone and quickly escaped. A day later, the thief returns the passport by keeping it above the switchboard on the ground floor.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred between 6.30am and 7am at a house on the 2nd floor of 22nd Main, 7th Cross. Thirty-three-year-old software engineer Santosh Yadav was sleeping when the theft occurred. He lost a Lenovo laptop, his passport and his phone, a MotoX4.
 
“It appears like someone in the building itself must have stolen them,” Santosh told Residents Watch. He stays in a building that is home to 10 independent houses. “After the theft, I went around alerting a few neighbours in my building and stressed on the importance that the passport I lost was critical for me to get a visa and so on. Miraculously, the next day morning, the thief returns the passport which gives rise to suspicions that one of my neighbours could be the thief.”
 
The cops have been apprised of his suspicions and they are investigating this case of theft under Section 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A house was burgled in Sector 3 on Monday, December 10. Cash and gold jewellery was stolen during daytime by breaking the door lock. The incident occurred between 1.20pm and 1.50pm on 18th C Main, 3rd floor. Dr Shreyaa (27 years) stays with her husband Vivek Prashant. On the day of the robbery, both had left home at 11am to a hospital.
 
Later, the husband left for Patna on work while Shreyaa returned home at 5pm. She was horrified to see that the front door was ajar and the thief had broken into her home. The cupboard was open and all her gold jewellery worth Rs 14-15 lakh and Rs 25000 cash had vanished. The cops have registered the case under two sections for theft (IPC 380) and trespassing (IPC 454).
 
 
Shreyaa was married in June and had come to stay in HSR in July this year. Her expensive wedding jewellery is not with her anymore. The CCTV installed on the ground floor reveals a confusing scenario. The thief, wearing a helmet, opens the door of the house on the ground floor and enters it. In a minute, he is out of it and locks the door and takes the stairs to reach Shreyaa’s third floor independent house. The owner of the ground floor did not report any missing valuable.
 
He is later seen carrying a pillow from Shreyaa’s house which is where all the stolen jewellery could be hidden. What’s confusing is that the door doesn’t appear to be forced open. Clearly, the thief either had a duplicate key or knew how to pick locks. However, the CCTV footage shows that the thief came back with a tool to go upstairs. That is when he could have unhinged the lock from the inside, just to confuse the cops investigating the case. Husband Vivek has another theory: “It appears that he has a duplicate key to my house and this looks like an inside job. The damage to the lock is to distract us.”

HSR pet lovers are alleging that vans are coming at midnight in HSR Layout to take away stray dogs for their meat. The next time, you eat out, you could be having ‘Bow Bow Biriyani’ instead of beef, chicken or mutton biriyani, they allege, citing a famous case that happened recently in Chennai where a restaurant was caught selling dog meat to its patrons.
 
In addition, relocating dogs is a violation of the Supreme Court order that only permits the BBMP to pick up the dog for vaccination and return the dog to its original habitat. The problem happens when it’s done unscientifically either by private operators or the BBMP contractors.
 
Pressured by the VVIPs, the residents allege that they could be catching dogs and relocating them elsewhere. When that happens, the dogs get more aggressive as they form packs to defend themselves in a new territory, according to CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action) Founder Trustee Suparna Ganguly. Which is why, it’s best to keep the dogs where they originally belonged.

Two-and-a-half months ago, we had written a story that you were not able to file an FIR at HSR police station whenever there is no electricity. Well, now you can, because the UPS has been fixed, but it cannot last for more than three hours.

Can Bescom give them special treatment? No, say Bescom officials because the station is on 27th Main Road, the hub of all commercial activity where new and old connections keep getting installed and uninstalled. Bescom has to switch off the power supply to rectify, erect or install new connections.
 
Only a long-lasting UPS connection is the way out. However, that requires a budgetary sanction from the police department. “For now, our UPS that was under repair has been fixed and it can last for about three hours,” said one official.
 
We urge the police department to install a UPS that atleast gives eight-hour supply as this is an emergency service and needs to be given that kind of importance. This is particularly crucial as everything is being done online. With no electricity, there is no access to internet and that means, no police complaints (FIR) can be filed online and no other case verification can be done when there are long power cuts, particularly during the summer or when Bescom is taking up major repair and installation works. In such cases, the copsmanually take down the complaint and later type it out online when the power is back on. That’s why some FIRs are registered late.

Despite our last year’s story about the organisers using high decibels and conducting the musical night even after midnight, they don’t seem to have learnt their lesson this year too. Yesterday, the loud music went on past midnight, annoying several residents across Sector 3, 4 and 2. Everybody wanted to know how the cops can allow such a function to happen. There were several calls made by the residents to the police control room. “The cops said they would send the Hoysala, but the music hasn’t stopped yet?” complained one resident. Another resident replied: “That’s because how can they stop an event that has the blessings of the MLA.”

But when they were informed that it was happening with the blessings of Bommanahalli MLA Sathish Reddy, the residents wanted the politician to correct himself and ensure that such functions and noise pollution activities are curtailed by 10pm. Lets hope Kishore Reddy, the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (Bommanahalli) who organised the event, corrects himself the next time around. However, the residents are urging the BBMP not to give permissions to anybody, no matter which party they belong to or even if it has the blessings of the MLA. Rules are rules and must be uniform to everybody, the residents argue.
 
Adding to the chaos was the 27th Main Road being held to ransom on Saturday with an open street fest, fashion show and dance war. HSR Federation chairman BNR Reddy wanted to know how the cops can allow commercial activity on a public property. Every other Residents Welfare Association echoed his views. The traffic chaos that ruled the streets around this time was to be seen to be believed. There was crawl up at Nandini Cooljoint junction on one end and at the NIFT junction on 27th Main Road as traffic was sealed off from 13th Cross to 16th Cross on 27th Main Road.

S Narasimhan, an 80 year old suffering from dementia (short term memory loss) stepped out for a walk and forgot his address along the way. His photograph with his details were uploaded by his family members across social media. His son Sathyanarayana N is much relieved now.
 
“That’s the power of social media,” Sathyanarayana told Residents Watch. “He was found in Siddapura, Jayanagar, at around 11am on Jayanagar. Somebody spotted him and gave us the information with his location. We rushed to the place and got him back. He was out of home for two days, and we are yet to recover from this incident.”
 
The ‘missing person’ message is still going round social media, so we would suggest the folks to stop forwarding the message as he has returned and also clarify on the channels where they see them, by perhaps sharing their story over there.

According to the BBMP, the culprits behind the massive fire that engulfed Bellandur Lake in January this year have been caught. And they don’t happen to be industries letting chemicals into the lake but four scrap dealers who have been clandestinely burning OFCs to extract copper from them to sell it elsewhere and make a living.

According to the cops, these youth were indulging in this for the last two years, and could well be the reason behind the frequent burnings spotted around the lake.
 
However, this time around, with marshalls on duty, they were caught on December 6 at around 11.50am near the Bellandur Tank Bund Road which comes under the HSR Layout police’s jurisdiction.
 
In the police complaint filed by Doradla Narasimha Rao, the BBMP’s assistant executive engineer, the four accused burnt plastic wires and violated a state government order. The accused are Senthil (23 years), Pandurangan (28), Sharanappan (30) and Prakash (19).

Commuters at Central Silk Board junction wait atleast 20-30 minutes to cross the signal during peak hours and atleast 10 minuets during non-peak hours. Plans to make it signal-free have been in the works for the last 2.5 years, but the first tender failed to get a response from enough bidders. And now, the second bidding has also failed. It’s back to square one for both Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and the commuters who will have to suffer more.

The Silk Board junction is also the most congested and polluted junctions in the city. And if the status quo remains for some more time for lack of bidders, HSR residents are as much affected, pollution-wise as well. The 2.84 elevated corridor planned at the junction isn’t getting enough bidders because while the BMRCL estimates that Rs 133.54 crore is just enough to build the flyover, the bidders don’t want to build it for anything less than Rs 223 crore.
 
Who will plug this Rs 90 crore gap? Perhaps if commissions go away from the system, the corridor can be built with just Rs 90 crore and not even Rs 133 crore, say some insiders. But will it? Who will bell the corrupt cat when the cat happens to be the entire system?

BBMP Joint Commissioner (Bommanahalli) Veerabhadraswamy has left to make way for Dr A Soujanya, who was previously Deputy Commissioner, Land Acquisition and TDR (Transferable Development Rights) at the civic body. Last year, she was the Additional Commissioner (Administration) of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).

That’s not all. HSR Layout has a new Assistant Executive Engineer in SV Srinivas at the BBMP. His predecessor was Ananth Raju. Previous to him, Venkatesh was the AEE who was sacked by then chief minister Siddaramaiah at a public meeting in Sector 3 when the residents complained about his inaction on illegal buildings and rampant commercialisation in HSR Layout.
 
Right now, Ananth Raju has decided to take time off to recuperate from long hours of working, before being transferred to a different ward. Srinivas is the official you need to contact in cases of building violations, commercialisation, desilting of drains, road humps, and road dividers, among others.
 
The residents of HSR Layout are looking forward to working with the new faces at BBMP in resolving the many issues of this burgeoning neighbourhood.
