The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) planned to revamp the Indiranagar BDA complex more than three years ago but nothing happened because the deeply entrenched shopkeepers protested that they would lose their livelihood.
But that is just one of the reasons. The real reason is that the BDA is good at mooting ideas but bad at implementation. Now, the BDA has come back with the same proposal, this time, to revamp six of their BDA complexes, including HSR, at a collective budget of Rs 330 crore.
A tender has been floated for a public-private venture, but we don’t know if this will also remain only on paper. In any case, the HSR Layout project will come up on 4.93 lakh square meters of land at a redevelopment cost of Rs 150 crore.
Right now, there are 107 shops at the complex who will be displaced by this move. However, they can become tenants in the new mall, but will invariably have to pay a higher rent for the extra luxury.
What do you think of this move? Suggestions and constructive criticism can be sent to: residentswatchmag@gmail.com.
The best feedback will be published in the next issue.
