On February 9, volunteers gathered to remove a blackspot on Outer Ring Road. It was earlier a place for the secondary collection point that is since moved to under the BDA flyover. It was also a place where lorries parked and the drivers dirtied the place. And it is still a place where sewage flows into the stormwater drains, causing more mess, thanks to BWSSB’s inability to prevent the houses nearby from letting sewage into the stormwater drains.
The Ugly Indians got to work with several other residents from 8.30am to 12.30pm alongwith BBMP’s sweepers (pourakarmikas). We are talking about 30 volunteers and about 20 BBMP pourakarmikas. Volunteers from both Hasiru Mithra and HSR Citizen Forum were seen along with the team from The Ugly Indians coming together for the spot fix. MLA Satish Reddy also joined the event by painting a wall, playing cricket and distributing sweets and fruits to the corporation’s labourers. The spotfix also involved applying rangoli, painting, badminton, dance, and finally sitting on the same floor and having snacks. What a transformation!
