Despite some efforts made by the traffic police, Iblur junction continues to be dangerous to riders and pedestrians alike. In January, a pedestrian died when a water tanker ran over him while he was crossing the road. While a skywalk is yet to be budgeted and sanctioned, there is another death at this junction of HSR Outer Ring Road and Sarjapur Road.
On February 9, at around 3.45am, 45-year-old Veerabhadrappa came under the wheels of a water tanker (KA01 AF2847). He was riding his two wheeler at around 3.45am in front of Columbia Asia hospital at Iblur junction. At around the same time, the driver of a water tanker was allegedly driving rashly from Agara towards Sarjapur Road. At Iblur junction, he applied the brakes too suddenly, toppling the tanker. It fell on the Honda Active rider who was coming from Harlur and proceeding towards Bellandur.
The rider was sandwiched between the road and the tanker. The passersby pushed away the water tanker using a tipper lorry to rescue the rider. However, the rider had died by then due to excessive bleeding as he was badly injured. The tanker driver left his vehicle and ran away. The HSR traffic cops have filed a hit-and-run case against the tanker driver for causing death by negligence and rash driving.
