After Flipkart and Myntra, it was now the turn of Adyar Ananda Bhavan (A2B). Clearly, these big chains have no sense of responsibility towards the environment and thereby, humans. Adyar was fined Rs 1 lakh by the city corporation for using banned plastic and not segregating waste, thereby violating the rules of Solid Waste Management (SWM).
It was a surprise inspection by the BBMP officials at Adyar’s HSR Layout outlet that led to the fine for not following the SWM protocols. However, one resident still claims that A2B still uses plastic boxes to pack their sweets. They have shifted to paper covers for other condiments, though.
Narasimha tweeted the authorities about ending this problem permanently: “Really fail to understand why can’t our governments act on the manufacturers. Till when we will address symptoms and keep ignoring the cause. God save us from these symbolic measures.”
