The Hangover pub in Sector 1, HSR Layout, was on fire this afternoon. It took three vehicles to extinguish the fire in over an hour (click the video above).
The fire began at around noon when people were welding the temporary metal structures on the first floor. Sparks flew and the entire first floor soon caught fire, with dense black smoke enveloping the building. No one was injured. A fire force official said, “The pub was closed for the last ten days due to renovation work. The fire happened during the welding work as there were many scrap items around.” The fire force officials reached the spot at 1245pm and completed their exercise at around 2pm.
‘Illegal welding activity’
The residents dub the renovation work as ‘illegal’. Says HE Chandrashekar, Chairman, Federation of HSR Layout Residents Welfare Association: “If it’s a temporary structure, why was welding being done to make it permanent? This is illegal and the authorities should question the owners to ascertain the legality of the renovation work.”
Controversial pub
A year ago, the pub was shutdown by the excise department for violating rules, and reopened after a court’s stay order.
