The BBMP has teamed up with the ever-famous The Ugly Indian, an anonymous group of citizens hellbent on cleaning up the city, and Embassy Builders to beautify the 101 pillars of the elevated road between Hebbal flyover and the Bangalore Airport. It’s truly a joy to see colours on a drab, cemented structure. Here are two videos (see above) that convey the excitement of the makeover by the common citizens.
Announcing the drive, BBMP Commissioner Anil Kumar said in a press statement that the Embassy Group and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) have come together for the exercise with the help of The Ugly Indian, “BBMP’s official partner for visual cleanliness”. He said that the volunteers will not only paint the pillars but also keep them free from posters and graffiti.”
Resident Jana, however, had a cautionary note: “What does this show? That there are willing citizens to beautiful the city, but BBMP is hell bent on swindling the 10K crores budget.”
