On Monday, December 10, 75-year-old Gangadhara N Nayar, a resident of Suncity apartments in Iblur off Sarjapur Road was crossing the road in front of Columbia Asia Hospital at Iblur junction when a BMTC bus hit him. The bus driver panicked and ran away while parking the bus on the road itself. The Iblur junction is the most risky for pedestrians. The residents have been demanding an elevated walkway for the longest time but the BBMP is yet to sanction it. Perhaps now they might, but you never know, say residents.

The cops have registered a case under two sections of the Indian Motorvehicles Act and the Indian Penal Code. The bus driver is charged under Section 134 of The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 for dereliction of duty in providing medical assistance to the person he has injured. He is also charged for causing grievous injury under Section 338 of the Indian Penal Code in addition to rash driving under Section 279.
